Another WorkPapers Milestone – Desktop Release

Lately, in this blog I try not go on about my pet software project, but cannot help to brag about some milestones. So, I’ve finally done it! About four years ago when I finished the RealBASIC version of WorkPapers (v2x) for Mac and Windows, I started to create a web version, but never got to it…. just could not stretch my time  to make yet another version. The press release is here.
This time around I started with the web version of WorkPapers, then went to the drawing board with an almost identical desktop version – interface and function. This led me on an adventure with Java, which I have come to respect and enjoy. I always used to tease and look down on Java programmers, but after giving it a try myself, and after seeing how robust the language is, I too am a proud Java developer.
The WorkPapers Desktop release marks a major milestone, that takes us onto a few more interface tweaks related to access control, then to Google Docs integration by the close of the year. If you have a chance, come on over to http://workpapers.pro and give it a try. In fact, if you are running an audit shop without it, you are probably living an Excel nightmare.
On this WorkPapers journey, I found a great piece of software called Advanced Installer that will take your Java application and roll a really nice installer that checks the prerequisites and packages the JAR files into a nice executable (exe) file. It also works great for service and console applications.
