Active Directory Analysis

A couple of weeks ago I wrote this post because I had just found out that a group of security ‘professionals’ and ‘consultants’ (not from our company) that were assigned to one of my projects did not have the technical ability to download user records, or any other records, from Active Directory (AD) and perform the appropriate ID management analysis. While I am senior management, I do take the pride of being able to do about anything required, including the technical work that is necessary to figure out via Google, MS Support sites, or any other resource – a skill … Continue reading Active Directory Analysis

Altoids Wireless Microphone

I do not know which one came up with the idea first, but these two web pages- AL7FS Jim Larsen and Pirate Nation Radio – show circuit board designs that fit into an Altoids box. But I also remember an IT Infrastructure Manager at a company that I used to work at that always had stacks of Altoids boxes on his desk. Wonder if any of those ‘empty’ boxes was really packing something like this little version. The view from the front is a bit deceiving except for the little yellow tail coming out of the back. For surveillance on … Continue reading Altoids Wireless Microphone

The WanAway… A work In Progress

Over the past year or so, a friend and I have been mulling over a device that can be used in a variety of ways to deter animals from entering certain perimeter areas – such as keeping a dog from doing his business at the front gate of your house. There are other applications as I have learned that apply to keeping wolves off of ranches, or keeping coyotes away from designated areas. The high level design involves a circuit that produces an ultrasound output at about 20 KHz combined with a circuit that detects motion and size. The motion … Continue reading The WanAway… A work In Progress

Share on Facebook Continue reading 日本語のプログができた!

Three-Day Weekend

It’s a Friday night at the start of a three-day weekend. We have one of my wife’s friends and her two girls over this evening for tacos, which is something you don’t get to eat very often in Japan. Gave notice at my job this week and soon after realized that I still have 29 days of vacation left, so I will work the rest of this month and take next month off. While vacationing on my regular job during March, will try to pickup a consulting gig, so that I can make a little extra money for the computer … Continue reading Three-Day Weekend

Been A While

It’s been a couple weeks since I have had time (or taken time) to sit down and update my blog. Over the past month, have managed to add a couple dollars to the forex portfolio, but nothing spectacular. A little nervous right at this moment because all the signals were calling a sell-off after EUR/USD hit 1.4900. Have not seen a sell-off start yet, but after passing through 1.4900, this pair is still floating between 1.4800 and 1.4900. So late this week, I decided to trade only lightly and bail quick on any losses. Here’s a couple of pics that … Continue reading Been A While

The New Year Has Arrived

Went into the office yesterday to do a few quick tasks before starting up next Monday – gotta like the long New Year vacations in Japan! When I came back home last night after a quick visit by Alex’s house, I started doing some Friday night trading and ran right into a jackpot. Usually try to avoid news release periods when trading, but forgot that the US unemployment rate would be announced. Just as the announcement was released, I was long on EUR/USD and experienced a 100+ pip profit! Whewww hoooooo!! Over the past week had been in the red … Continue reading The New Year Has Arrived

Nervous New Year’s Trading – An Interesting 17:00 JP Time Pattern

Lately I have been a bit nervous about trading the EUR/USD due to some of the recent fluctuations. In for the long on 12/12, I hit a little dip that night then decided to swing trade a couple days thinking that it would go back up… it took a lot longer than I thought. Yesterday’s dip at around 17:00 Japan time is starting to be a noticeable pattern. A look across one week on the historical charts, there is at least a 20 – 30 pip drop every day. Let’s take a look at the past couple days, since this … Continue reading Nervous New Year’s Trading – An Interesting 17:00 JP Time Pattern

Another Day in Paradise

Or, not so warm of a paradise. This last day of 2007 presents a very cold high temperature of 8 degrees celsius with a northern wind that makes it seem closer to zero. It was so cold this morning I put off walking the dog (Bo) until he was dancing in the living room and barking in demand for a walk. Also managed to convince the kids that it would be better to stay inside and play instead going to the local department store. But that only lasted so long, so here I am at the local Starbucks sipping on … Continue reading Another Day in Paradise
